MOCK DRAFT

updated - April 1st- 2009

Note: a 4.Round Mock Draft will Appear soon

1.Round

1. Detroit Lions - Jason Smith - OT - Baylor

Who should the Lions take with the no 1 overal pick?  New Coach Jim Schwarz and his team have a big decision.  Do they go the same route as the Dolphins did in 2008 by taking an offensive tackle? seems like the safest option. Smith´s stock has gone up every month this past season and the former tight end is very impressive as a true left tackle prospect, he has great straight line speed and has improved greatly since he became a tackle.  Smith has the most upside out of all the LT in this draft.  I had Sanchez here previously but they havent shown him any interest.  I make the pick at this point Smith cos he will be cheaper than Stafford and new GM Mayhew seems to have an odd crush on Daunte Culpepper.

Did you know? Is a former Tight End

2. St. Louis Rams - Eugene Monroe - OT - Virginia

With Orlando Pace not with the Rams any more and with Alex Barron becoming a free agent next year a franchise Left tackle is a priority and Monroe is your prototypical left tackle with great height and long arms, and more importantly he is ready to play.   Did you know? Monroe has 15 siblings, 11 brothers and 4 sisters
3. Kansas City Chiefs - Aaron Curry - OLB - Wake Forrest

They have more problems on defence than offence and Curry is one of the best players in this draft and can be a leader for that defence in years to come.  Did you know? Curry had planned going to law school after graduation

4. Seattle Seahawks - Matthew Stafford - QB - Georgia

New head coach Jim Mora has got plenty of work ahead of him and Seahawks have needs among the offensive line and at the defensive back positions.  But with Stafford surprisingly dropping the Seahawks find their future signal caller.  Although Mora said that Hasselbeck is their QB, the fact is that he turns 34 this year and struggled a lot with injury last season, also he only has 2 years left on his contract and i find it unlikely that they will give him a new contract at age 36, Seattle would be wise to prepare for a future without Hasselbeck.   I must admit i have been hard on Stafford at times but i have watched him even more closeley this past month and i might have been wrong about him. Another surprise option here might be a running back with Chris Wells stock getting higher every day now.

Did you know? Stafford graduated from high school a year early.

5. Cleveland Browns - Brian Orakpo - DE/OLB - Texas

Browns have plenty of needs and a 3-4 outside linebacker would be nice here but so could a WR with Donte Stallworth ineffective and possibly going to jail, Braylon Edwards inconsistent and the fact that Edwards is a free agent in 2010 they might go for Crabtree here.   Orakpo who recorded 10,5 sacks, 18 tackles for loss and four fumbles this year, Orakpo production was especially good in big games and the guy looked amazing at his pro day.

6. Cincinnati Bengals - B.J. Raji - DT - Boston College

His stock is now sky high after his great senior bowl week and combine and you only have to look at his practices to see his great effort  Raji has solified himself as a top 15 pick.

Did you know? His first name is Busari

oak1.gif7. Oakland Raiders - Michael Crabtree - WR - Texas Tech

Al Davis would be wise to get some protection for his star QB JaMarcus Russell so Jason Smith would be a temptation here but Al Davis still runs this team and he won´t be able to resist the to draft a guy like Crabtree who and he will be pretty happy with Russell, McFadden and Crabtree on the same team.

Did you know? he played quarterback in high school , he also used to cut his teammates hair at Texas Tech.

8. Jacksonville Jaguars - Michael Oher - OT - Ole Miss

the Jaguar signed 34 year old Tra Thomas to play at left tacle but i think its unlikely they don´t  Oher if he is on the board, they get a very strong and physicly gifted tackle.

Did you know? Michael Lewis book The Blind Side features Oher childhood and recruitment.

gb1.gif9. Green Bay Packers - Everett Brown - LB - Florida State

Everett Brown had a great season at Florida State.  Seems to be very similar to another player from Florida State Kameron Wimbley who has been a disappointment in his 3 year career in the NFL so im not sold on Brown like alot of other people.

10. San Francisco 49ers - Percy Harvin - WR/HB - Florida

I really don´t understand what the 49ers are doing.  If i was 49ers GM Scott Mcloughan i would be all over Mark Sanchez, sending everyone to see him at this pro-day and bring him in for a personal workout and basically saying that they are gonna draft him.  Then on draft day trade him to a team like the Jets, then they might get Harvin who could take a little pressure of Gore .  I might blasted for picking Harvin that high but i do it because i rate him highly and lets face it if you wouldnt have been arguing if he had not had the injury history from college.  His injury history is a concern to many but the player played with a hairline fracture in his ankle in the National Championship game and still racked up 170 yards so im not really worried about him.  I know the 49ers need a pass rusher but Harvin is to good to pass on and he can be a great weapon for the 49ers offence.

Did you know? In high school Harvin is the only athlete in Virginia  history to claim five gold medals at the state track and field championships.

11. Buffalo Bills - Aaron Maybin - LB/DE - Penn State

The redshirt sophmore could go really anywhere in the 1st round, had a great year at Penn State and is a big boom or bust type in terms of potential.  I wasnt impressed with him at all at the scouting combine but he did much better at his pro day but the big question is where he will play at the next level.

den.gif12. Denver Broncos - Chris Wells - RB - Ohio State

A top 5 pick in december, Wells is on the rice again and might even sneak into the top 10 but Broncos although they signed Lamont Jordan and Buckhalter still might go after a RB here.

was.gif13. Washington Redskins - Andre Smith - OT - Alabama

In my first mock in November mock i had Smith as the no 1 pick but his stock is dropping now, Smith in my opinion played the best football last season out of the 4 highly rated OT in this draft.  But his off field issues regarding an agent and the question about his weight have hurt his stock along with his AWOL at the Combine.   Smith has very quick feet and allowed only 1 sack in 2008.  Did you know? Smith had 88 pancake blocks in his senior year in high school.

14. New Orleans Saints - Malcom Jenkins - CB - Ohio

The combine hurt Jenkins alot as he likley wont go into the top 10, i still say he has lockdown corner potential.

Did you know? Jenkins won a state title in a 400 meters dash as a junior in high school.

15. Houston Texans - Knowshown Moreno - RB - Georgia

A running back like Moreno is too good to pass on.  Moreno is an amazing player who is hard to bring down and he is amazing after contact with his great leg drive. I was not surprised to see Steve Slaton do so well last year as i thought he was underrated prospect, but in the NFL these days you need to good backs and Moreno and Slaton would complement each other well.

Did you know? scored 43 touchdowns in 10 games in his senior year in high school in New Jersey.

16. San Diego Chargers - Ray Mayaluga - LB - USC

I must admit im not a big Mayaluga fan but he was better at the senior bowl than i expected and he has been productive in college but i think the player is overrated and i am also worried about his off-field issues during his college career.

17. New York Jets - Mark Sanchez - QB - USC

If Mark Sanchez would have played more than one season as a starter at USC there would be much more debate over him and Stafford.  Great leader and if they can get him with the 17th pick he is a steal.

chi.gif18. Chicago Bears - Jeremy Maclin - WR - Missouri

They could go Josh Freeman here but i think Kyle Orton is gonna get 1 more season to try to prove he has a future at a starting QB in Chicago

Did you know? Maclin had over 5.600 all purpose yards in only 2 years in College, including 6 rushing touchdowns.

19. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - Josh Freeman - QB - Kansas State

20. Detroit Lions(frá Dallas) - Michael Johnson - DE - Georgia Tech

i doubt it Johnson falls out of the first round with his amazing physical abilitities and with the 20th pick he is worth the risk.

21. Philadelphia Eagles - Ebben Britton - OT - Arizona

Eagles have to make good use of their 2 first round picks and make with Buckhalter gone and Westbrook now past the age of 30 they must find a RB to help out McNabb but they grab a tackle first with Ebben Britton still on the board.

min.gif22. Minnesota Vikings -  Tyson Jackson - DE/DT/LB - L.S.U.

Tyson Jackson is an interesting prospect who might end up at Defensive Tackle to replace the aging Pat Williams, he certainly has the size to play that position or play as a DE opposite Jaren Allen altough some see him as a 3-4 outside linebacker only.  A quarterback could also be a possibility if Mark Sanchez falls to the latter part of the 1st round, i certainly don´t think Tarvaris Jackson is a franchise QB.  Did you know? Wants to be a teacher

23. New England Patriots - Brian Chusing - OLB - USC

There is no doubt the the Patriots have to upgrade their outside linebacker positions but who do they take? Thats very difficult to predict, there is a big chance that linebacker comes from USC with so many on the board at this point, but at the moment my money is on Chusing.

24. Atlanta Falcons - Brandon Pettigrew - TE - Oklahoma State

L.J. Smith decided to go to the Ravens so i see the Falcons getting Pettigrew here for Matt Ryan.  Although his stock is falling mainly because of his poor timed speed i still see him solid in the first round.  Great athlete and a great blocker

Did you know? Was primarly a blocker in high school

25. Miami Dolphins - Darius Butler - CB - Uconn

Bill Parcell personally attended Hakeem Nicks workout on March 26th so that tells you something about what the Dolphins are thinking, but they also have needs at outside linepacker and cornerback and i think thats where they will end up selecting.  The Dolphins have followed Butler very closely and have alot of interest.  Butler has been overshadowed but Jenkins and Davis but he might end up being the best of the bunch.  He improved his 40 yard dash time from the combine and ran 4,38 at his pro-day.

Did you know? His cousin is Baltimore Ravens Running Back Willis McGahee

26. Baltimore Ravens - Darrius Heyward-Bey - WR - Maryland

This year speedster is Heyward-Bey and he could go as high as no 7 to the Raiders, and thats where i had Bey in my first mock in November.  Rare size and speed for the position he can be a great vertical threat for Joe Flacco´s arm.

ind.gif27. Indianapolis Colts - Hakeem Nicks - WR - NC State

The Colts have had major trouble against the run so a defensive tackle might be their first choice but Bill Polian and his team does not misses the chance to draft a weapon for Peyton Manning.  Nicks is a physical receiver with great hands and could step right into Marvin Harrison´s role for the team.  Another option would be a player like Kenny Britt who has a WR size Peyton hasnt seen during his career.

28. Philadelphia Eagles - Donald Brown  - RB - Uconn

nyg.gif29. New York Giants - Kenny Britt - WR - Rutgers

This selection really hangs in the balance if the future of Burress gets sorted out, at this time i am not expecting him to return and altough Britt has your typical WR character concerns he is a great talent.

30. Tennessee Titans - Peria Jerry - DT - Ole Miss

If Peria Jerry is still available they get a player who was a leader of the Ole Miss defensive line.

Did you Know? Has 2c ousins who played linebacker in the NFL Eddie Strong and Dwayne Rudd

31. Arizona Cardinals - Clay Matthews - OLB - USC

The Cardinals went to the Super Bowl with virtually no running game during the season as they were 32nd in the league in rushing so a RB is a priority but with the three premium RB off the board the Cardninals have to turn their attention elswhereMatthews is very smart and a true Outside linebacker, surprised many during the senior bowl and may even end up being selected higher than his highly rated USC team mates.

Did you know? Matthews comes from a football family and he is a former walk-on at USC.

32. Pittsburgh Steelers - Alex Mack - C - California

Mack is a great character and a super athlete and will be the leader of that offensive line for the next decade.
